Doug Malousis
Senior Vice President / Creator / Host / Executive Producer
Most of Doug Malousis’s television career has been behind the camera as a producer or director. Although he has conducted countless interviews off-camera for various programs “Head Coach” is his first extended on camera experience. He has the ability to relate to people of all walks of life and make them feel very comfortable and at ease during the interview process. His non threatening approach enables these very prominent coaches to open up and give the audience a different perspective of these very successful men.
Doug is also the Executive Producer and creator of “Head Coach.” He describes “Head Coach” this way, “We really try to give our viewers a glimpse of the man behind the persona, and let them find out something they never knew about these coaches.” As fans, our only contact with these coaches is on television or watching them on the court or on the field. “Head Coach” provides these men, and the people closest to them, an opportunity to describe their character, their career journey, their faith and issues they feel strongly about. Interviews with friends, family and co-workers will paint a very clear picture for the viewer and hopefully they will walk away with a new appreciation and respect for these coaches.
Doug started his television career in sports programming by directing live NCAA Division I and Division II sporting events on a freelance basis. He has directed multi-camera live and tape delayed events that include football, basketball, baseball, tennis, volleyball and water polo. When he married his college sweetheart it became a priority to stay closer to home, not travel as much and find something with a really good benefit program. With this in mind he made the move to corporate television and worked for Southern California Edison, the nation’s second largest electric utility. During a 10 and-a-half year stint Doug had oversight of television production, which included internal communications, external marketing efforts, training projects, commercial and advertising productions.
After a great experience at Southern California Edison, Doug formed a partnership in a commercial production company. Teamed with his good friend Randy Argue the company expanded and enjoyed great success producing commercials for a variety of clients and advertising agencies. During this same time Doug also formed a strong relationship with Michael Fowlkes who owned the television show “Inside Sportfishing.” Over a five year period Doug produced and directed 28 half-hour episodes and worked his way into an ownership stake in the company. His duties included being the Coordinating Producer, directing, videography, some on-camera functions and managing the travel business line for the company. This show took him around the world fishing and documenting many of the best resorts anyone can imagine.
During this point in time, Doug felt the call to the ministry. His life long friend Jim Harmeling became the Senior Pastor at the First Baptist Church of Morristown, Tennessee and after months of soul searching, Doug accepted the position of Director of Media Ministries. After three years of service he returned to the business world with his current partners Mike Hill, Bud Mull and Monte Hill. “These men are the people who have made “Head Coach” a reality,” said Malousis. “Without their relationships, continued support and dedication to this project these programs would not have seen the light of day.”
Doug is a native of Southern California and has been living in East Tennessee for the past four years. He has been married for 21 years to his lovely wife Deanne and they have three children, Ashley a freshman at the University of Tennessee, Andrew a sophmore in high school and Anthony in the fourth grade.
